Bedspreads

Paint By Threads specializes in creating bedspreads that are simple; showcasing clean straight lines and seams that are essential to accentuating an Arts and Crafts bed. A central motif provides interest and color. Bedspreads are coverlet or throw style and include between an 18-inch drop at the sides and end of bed.  Additional material can be added to the top of the bedspread to allow for a pillow tuck (as shown in the photograph for the Craftsman Bedspread).  All bedspreads are lined in premium muslin cotton. Duvet style bedspreads are also available and include a cotton backing with a button closure at the bottom for insertion of your favorite down comforter for those cool winter nights. Custom bedspreads can be created to coordinate with a wall paper or wall stencil designs.

The Craftsman Bedspread

An excellcent option for showcasing embroidered pillows across the top of the bed or a scarf at the foot of the bed, a grouping of three satin stitched squares is worked at intervals of every 4-inches along the side seams of the bedspread. A stem stitch is worked on top of the side seam to conceal it. Simple and elegant. The hand embroidery can be worked in any color.

Carrie’s Garden Bedspread

Carrie's Garden is stenciled and worked in any color (shown in pink on left images and red to match a William Morris wallpaperin the right image).  The design is outlined in hand embroidery in stem and coral stitches and French knots. Leaves are stenciled in green, and the flower stems are brown. The design has a width of 18 inches and a length of 24 inches.

Roycroft Rose Bedspread

This design is hand embroidered and is worked along all sides of the bedspread. Shown in the photograph below in a traditional palette of deep red, green and brown, the colors may be changed to accomodate any room. Additional economical options are available and include working Roses in the corners, or Roses & Stems at the top and foot of the bedspread. 

Harvey Bedspread

Worked entirely in stem stitch, the Harvey Bedspread the large motifs are applicqued in colors of rust.  The design can also inlcude yellows and greens. The finished design measures 20 inches wide by 17 inches in length.

Bat Motif

Offered in a color palette of brown, nutmeg, and olive green the Bat motif is hand appliqued than embroidered in the couching stitch, stem and satin stitch. Possible designs include a daybed assemply with bats and ivy worked in the four corners, stem stitch detail along the long and short edges of the spread, and traditional pillow shams in two different layouts with an open back for pillow insert, and (pictured here) with accent pillows.

Petite Rose Bedspread

Similar to the Craftsman Bedspread, a small rose is worked in place of the square grouping. Available in nearly any color, the photo depicts red roses worked on our Stonehenge Linen.  Costs for this option are the same as the Craftsman Bedspread. 

The above photo shows the sizing and spacing of both the Petite Rose and Craftsman bedspread motifs. Please note that the stem stitch (straight line worked on top of the seam is not worked for the Petite Rose bedspread).

Bud Flower Bedspread

The Bub Flower motif can be stenciled with gold blooms (as shown), or can be stenciled in red, burgundy, or blue (just to name a few), and is outlined in hand embroidery using the stem stitch, with topmost “seeds” worked in satin stitch, and flower heads worked in French knots. Leaves for all color options are stenciled in olive green, and the flower stems are hand embroidered using pearl cotton brown thread. The design has a width of 16 inches and a length of 16 inches (the width of the design can be increased for California and Eastern King beds by added a third motif (providing an additional 9 inches for a total width of 25 inches). 

COMPLETE BEDSPREAD COST

Costs to construct a complete bedspread are provided below.  Prices include heavyweight Belgium Linen (upholstery grade linen suitable for sofas) in Stonehenge, Craftsman Natural, Sage, Camel, Blue, Plum, Deep Red or Ivory, or Pasadena Natural (a med to heavyweight linen with a soft hand), labor to construct bedspread, embroidery/stenciling of selected design and lining. For budgets friendly options bedspreads can be constructed with medium weight Ivory in a washed finish (soften through washing reveal natural linen textures) can be completed at a decrease in costs and a saving of $100. The traditional pillow tuck can be added to a bedspread for $100. 

The above photograph depicts some of the linen options available for bedspreads. The photo was showns natural, indoor lighting conditions (sunny day and windows in bedroom) and the samples a top of an oatmeal colored linen. From top to bottom is Craftsman Natural, Craftsman Flax, Pasadena Natural, Pasadena Flax, Irish Linen Ivory (mill washed and solfened), and Stonehenge.
